Misha Garey, DDS , is the Dentist for Orange Grove’s dental clinic. The clinic focuses on treatment for patients with special needs, treating patients with conditions such as, but not limited to, Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Fragile X, Angelmann’s and Prader-Willi Syndrome.
The dental clinic at Orange Grove focuses on a open inviting environment . Music, TV, and video games are available for patient comfort and entertainment. Caretakers can accompany the patient during treatment.The Dental Clinic embraces the "desensitization model" and is successful in having patients treated without sedation or medical stabilization. We allow time for the patient to become familiar with the new sights and sounds in the dental clinic. Multiple visits for treatment can be scheduled if this is best for the patient.
Orange grove has various therapeutic departments. Medical, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology are examples. The dental clinic can collaborate with the professionals for best patient outcomes.
The dental clinic staff is active in educating the direct support personnel and new staff how to best support oral health care for an individual.
Dr. Garey graduated from UTC in 2003. She attended dental school at the University of Tennessee, graduating in 2007.
Her memberships include the, American Dental Association, and the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry, Special Care Dental Association. She is also an active participant in Special Olympic activities, including MedFest, a screening for Special Olympics athletes for any dental disease.
Also seeing patients are a dental hygienist Nadia Marandi and dental assistant Daffney Watkins. Nadia has treated patients at orange Grove for 5 years.
The orange grove dental clinic serves as a teaching facility for Dental Hygiene students from Chattanooga State.
